POMONA -- Brian Peek scored twice in the first 21 minutes of the game and
Ori Kenett and
Eduardo Faria added scores later on as the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team cruised past Cal State San Marcos on Friday afternoon at Kellogg Stadium in Pomona.
The Broncos have won six straight matches improving to 8-4 overall and taking over sole possession of second place in the CCAA at 6-1. The Cougars fell to 6-4-2 (2-3-2 CCAA).
It was 3-0 before halftime, thanks to
Ori Kenett's second goal of the season at 40:56, following Peek's brace by the 22nd minute. It was a dominant half for the Broncos, who outshot the Cougars 14-3.
Cal State San Marcos managed to take 8 of the 12 shots in the second half, and even snuck one past CPP's
Jakob Hansen in the 67th minute, but that's all the Broncos would allow. Six minutes after CSUSM scored, Faria struck for his first goal of the year to put the game out of reach.
The hosts outshot the Cougars 18-11 overall, and of the 11 CSUSM shots, the goal was the only shot on frame.
Cal Poly Pomona will play its final regular season home match of the season Sunday when it hosts No. 16 UC San Diego at 11:30 am at Kellogg Stadium. It will be Senior Day at Kellogg as seven CPP seniors will be honored in a special pre-game ceremony beginning at approximately 11:20 am.
