POMONA -- Kristen Hamlin led the way with 12 kills and
Desi Martin pounded eight kills in 11 attacks without an error for a sizzling .727 hitting percentage as the 19th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-19, 25-19) over visiting Cal State East Bay Friday night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
The Broncos improve to 18-3 overall and 11-2 in the CCAA. The Pioneers fall to 12-10 (8-6 CCAA).
Red-hot Cal Poly Pomona trailed just once the entire night (a 2-1 deficit in the third set) and was tied only three times before jumping out to leads as much as 11, 8 and 9 in the first, second and third sets, respectively before capturing the match victory in three sets.
Hamlin's 12 kills were the most by any player by either team while contributing a team-high four blocks. Martin had two blocks to go with her eight kills and three digs.
Alex Bollier tallied a match-high 14 digs and added two service aces.
Jenna Goldsberry chipped in with 11 digs and six kills, and
Chloe Fields-Owens had eight digs and a match-high three aces off the bench.
Kira Zimmerman passed out 37 assists with six digs, four kills, two aces and a block. As a team, CPP hit .330 and never hit less than .324 in any set.
Cal State East Bay was led by Kiki Leuteneker and her 10 kills as the Pioneers hit .208.
Cal Poly Pomona continues its five-match homestand Saturday when San Francisco State visits Kellogg Arena for the annual Dig For A Cure match. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
