SEASIDE, Calif. -- Ambria Pogue and
Ally LaCarra-Platt each scored a second half goal as the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team battled host Cal State Monterey Bay to a 2-2 tie Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex in Seaside.
The Broncos move to 4-8-3 overall this season and 0-6-3 in the CCAA. The Otters go to 6-5-3 (3-4-2 CCAA).
Cal State Monterey Bay got on the scoreboard first when Maya Richardson finished a centering cross from Norma Verduzco with just under three minutes to play before halftime. The Otters wouldn't have the lead for long as Pogue rebounded a shot by LaCarra-Platt that banged off the crossbar before sending it home for the 1-1 tie a little less than three minutes into the second half.
At 65:20, the Otters struck again when Annie Brown controlled a pass from Jasmine Safarians and put it past CPP keeper
Sydney Williams for the go-ahead score. Just two minutes later, at 67:25, LaCarra-Platt evened the score at 2-2 when she went 1v1 with CSUMB keeper Stephanie Busch and sent it past her into the netting.
The Broncos, who outshot the Otters 21-5 in the contest, had seven more chances to put in the go-ahead goal between the 68th minute and the end of double overtime, but four of them sailed high and the other three were saved by Busch, forcing the 2-2 draw.
Busch made 11 saves on the day while the Broncos' Williams made two stops. LaCarra-Platt (seven shots) and Pogue (six shots) accounted for 13 of CPP's 21 shots on Friday.
Cal Poly Pomona will take on Cal State East Bay in Hayward on Sunday at 11:30 am before wrapping up the regular season next weekend at Cal State L.A. on Thursday and at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.
