Erwin Engineers Comeback Win Over Pioneers

HAYWARD, Calif. -- Jillian Erwin scored the equalizer in the 80th minute, then buried the golden goal in the 108th minute to lift the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team to a come-from-behind 2-1 double-overtime victory over Cal State East Bay in stunning fashion on Sunday at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward.

The Broncos secure their first CCAA win of the season, improving to 1-6-3 in league play (5-8-3 overall), snapping their nine-match winless streak in the process.  The Pioneers fell to 7-7-2 overall and 2-6-2 in conference action.

Cal State East Bay got on the scoreboard first as Savannah Schultz netted her goal in the 12th minute.  From that point on, the hosts would only manage six more shot attempts in the final 96 minutes of action, none of which would get past CPP's Sydney Williams, who made three saves in the contest.

Meanwhile, the Broncos who outshot the Pioneers 13-9 on Sunday, didn't find the back of the goal until their eighth shot of the day, which came off the foot of Erwin at 79:05.  Neither team attempted a shot the rest of the way through regulation, forcing extra time.  Ally LaCarra-Platt attempted a shot in the first OT period, but missed wide, then four Bronco shots were aimed at CSUEB's Briana Vasquez-Ortiz in the second OT frame and it was the fourth one that got past her when Erwin connected on the game-winner at 107:14.

Cal Poly Pomona will play its final two games of the 2018 season next weekend on the road at Cal State L.A. on Thursday (4:30 pm) and at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday (11:30 am).
