Men's Soccer Stunned By #24 Golden Eagles

LOS ANGELES -- The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team surrendered two early goals and could never recover, falling 4-0 to No. 24 Cal State L.A. Thursday night at University Stadium in Los Angeles.

The Broncos (11-5, 9-2 CCAA) fall to second place in the conference standings, one point behind the Golden Eagles (12-2-2, 9-1-1 CCAA) with one regular season contest remaining for both teams.

With the loss, CPP also saw its nine-match win streak come to an end.  To capture the CCAA regular season title and the No. 1 seed in next weekend's CCAA tournament, the Broncos will need to defeat Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday and hope for a Cal State L.A. tie or loss to Cal State San Bernardino, also on Saturday, both kicking off at 2:00 pm.

While CPP outshot CSULA 9-4 through the first 56 minutes, the first four shots that Cal State L.A. attempted on Thursday found the back of the net.  The first two goals came in the 16th and 18th minutes from CSULA's Daniel Simonis and Robin Lindahl, respectively.  The Golden Eagles struck again less than three minutes into the second half on Lindahl's second goal of the night in the 48th minute.  The fourth and final goal came in the 56th minute by Leonardo Nogueira.

In the end, the shot count finished at 13-12 in favor of the visitors.  Jakob Hansen made two saves for CPP before Skyler Gibbons-Stovall came in to make one save in his 10 minutes of action late.
