CHAMPIONS! Broncos Capture Regular Season Title

CARSON, Calif. -- Jordan Jackmon scored in the 55th minute and it was all that was needed as the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team captured the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Soccer regular season title with a 1-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday at Toro Stadium in Carson.

The Broncos (12-5 overall) coupled with a 0-0 tie between Cal State L.A. and Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, earned their first regular season title in program history and secured the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in next weekend's CCAA Championship Tournament in La Jolla.  CPP will face the winner of Tuesday's first-round matchup between No. 4 seed Cal State San Bernardino and No. 5 seed San Francisco State on Friday.  Times have yet to be announced for Friday.

On Saturday, it was all Cal Poly Pomona, as the visitors rebounded from a 4-0 loss two days earlier to dominate CSUDH for the entire 90 minute contest.  CPP held an 18-9 shot advantage, and the only score came in the 55th minute when Gabriel Castillo found Jackmon for the 1-0 lead and eventual game-winner.

Jimmie Villalobos narrowly missed his shot attempt in the 27th minute when he banged one off the post from 30 yards out.  In the end, CSUDH goalkeeper Jordan Morgan made seven saves in his 78 minutes of work before Julian Tafolla-Cisneros took over and made one save in the final 22 minutes.

Jakob Hansen posted his fifth shutout of the year, making six saves in the process.

Cal Poly Pomona will make its fifth straight appearance in the CCAA Tournament next Friday.  When start times are announced for the semifinal contests in La Jolla, this story will be updated.  Stay tuned to goccaa.org for the most up-to-date information regarding the 2018 CCAA Soccer Championships.
