Bosnic, Broncos Hold Off Feisty Cougars In Three

SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Andrea Bosnic matched her season-high with 18 kills and Ally Wilder chipped in with 10, including the match-clinching point, as the 24th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team earned a tough 3-0 sweep over host Cal State San Marcos Friday night at The Sports Center in San Marcos.

The Broncos, who jumped up one spot in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll this week to No. 24, improve to 15-3 overall and 8-2 in the CCAA.  The Cougars fell to 8-9 (4-5 CCAA).

Bosnic not only supplied the offense for CPP Friday, but she was the team's second-leading defender, tallying 12 digs.  Wilder hits double-digit kills for the second time this season with her aforementioned 10 kills en route to a .409 hitting percentage.  Jenna Goldsberry scored nine kills, eight digs and two service aces, and Kristen Hamlin added seven kills, five digs and four blocks.  Alex Bollier shored up the back line with her match-high 21 digs.

CPP led for much of the first set, but Cal State San Marcos rallied to tie the frame up at 18-18 after trailing by three at 18-15.  However, the Broncos set cruise control and scored seven of the final nine points to take the first set 25-20.  It was a different story in the second set as the Cougars led for most of the stanza.  In fact, CSUSM held set point at 24-21, but kills by Hamlin and Bosnic, followed by three straight unforced errors by the hosts turned a three-point deficit for CPP into a two-point 26-24 win and the 2-0 match lead.

It was a see-saw battle in the third set until Cal Poly Pomona started to pull away late, taking a 19-14 lead. Not going down without a fight, Cal State San Marcos rallied to tie the score at 22-22, 23-23, 24-24 and 25-25 before Bosnic and Wilder put the game away for good.

Cal Poly Pomona wraps up a five-match road trip Saturday at UC San Diego.  First serve from the newly-remodeled RIMAC Arena is set for 7:00 pm.  The Broncos will then return home for five straight contests, beginning with a highly-anticipated showdown with No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino next Friday at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
