Women's Soccer Clipped By #23 Seawolves, 1-0

PETALUMA, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team held the 23rd-ranked team in the nation, Sonoma State, to just four shots in 90 minutes, but the host Seawolves connected on one of their attempts midway through the first half and the Broncos couldn't find the equalizer, falling 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Petaluma Community Sports Fields in Petaluma.

The Broncos (4-6-1) are still in search of their first CCAA win, falling to 0-4-1 in conference play.  The Seawolves improve to 7-1-3 overall and 5-1-1 in the CCAA.

Jillian Erwin recorded a team-high four shots, two of which came in the first six minutes of the contest for CPP.  After her second shot at 5:57, neither team attempted a shot until Sonoma's Molly Murphy sent one into the back of the net at 25:15 to put the nationally-ranked hosts on top, 1-0.  Both teams took one more shot before the half, but neither one was on frame.

CPP turned up the heat in the second half, putting pressure on SSU's back line time after time, but in the end, despite a 7-2 shot advantage by the Broncos in the final 45 minutes, Sonoma escaped with the win.

Clarissa Sanchez made one save on the day for the Broncos as her counterpart, Sonoma's Kristen Spear, made three stops to secure her sixth shutout of the season.

Cal Poly Pomona will continue its trek north to faceoff with Humboldt State in Arcata on Sunday.  Kickoff is set for 11:30 am.
