Pogue Scores, But Broncos Lose To HSU In Arcata

ARCATA, Calif. -- Ambria Pogue scored her first goal of the season to break a scoreless tie early in the second half, but the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team surrendered three unanswered goals later in the half to lose 3-1 at Humboldt State in Arcata on Sunday.  The Broncos fall to 4-7-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the CCAA.  The Lumberjacks rise to 4-7-1 and 2-6 in league play.

Pogue gave the Broncos the lead at 54:39 when Jillian Erwin crossed in to her from the right side, enabling Pogue to touch the ball into the right side of the net.   However, the lead lasted just four minutes.  Humboldt's Alex Jenkins attempted three shots in a row, one off the head that was saved by a CPP defender, one off the post, then one into the back of the net for the equalizing score at 58:49.

The game would remain a tie until the 85th minute when the Lumberjacks scored off a free kick from just outside the penalty box to make it 2-1 in favor of the hosts.  Two minutes later, the 'Jacks padded their lead on a corner kick into the box that found the head of Pikake Hix to give HSU the 3-1 lead and eventual victory.

The Broncos were outshot 16-14, but both teams tallied 11 shots on goal.  CPP's Clarissa Sanchez made four saves in the loss while HSU's Brooke Townsend made eight stops.

Cal Poly Pomona returns home Friday to begin its final homestand of the season, taking on Cal State San Marcos at 3:00 pm at Kellogg Stadium in Pomona.  The Broncos will then play their final home game of 2018 on Sunday at 2:00 pm against UC San Diego.
