TURLOCK, Calif. -- Jordyn Shane drained a career-high 35 points on 13 of 18 shooting with 11 rebounds as the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team earned a 75-64 victory over Stanislaus State Saturday night in Turlock.
The Broncos have won four straight games, improving to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA. The Warriors fall to 1-4 (1-2 CCAA).
Shane's 35 points was the most scored by a CPP player in a single game since former Bronco Jada Blackwell poured in 36 points in a double overtime loss to Azusa Pacific back on Nov. 15, 2014. It also matched a 35-point effort in a regulation game by Blackwell, who scored that in an 81-61 win over Edinboro in the National Quarterfinals back on Mar. 25, 2014.
Rebecca Islas also turned in a double-double effort with 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds and four assists.
The Broncos led for 33 and a half minutes in the contest, including the final 22 and a half minutes that saw CPP go up by as much as 12 points late in the third quarter (48-36 with 2:26 to play in the period). Stanislaus did pull to within four points with under a minute to play, but Cal Poly Pomona sealed the win at the free throw line, going 7 for 8 at the stripe and outscoring the hosts 7-0 in the final 46 seconds of play to win by 11.
Cal Poly Pomona will wrap up its four game road trip next Saturday with a 1:00 pm date at Sonoma State in Rohnert Park. The Broncos will then return home for a non-conference tilt with Central Washington on Dec. 15 at 2:00 pm.
