Women's Basketball Clinches Home Playoff Game with 68-63 Win

POMONA - The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team clinched a home playoff game on Saturday night, defeating San Francisco State 68-63 at Kellogg Arena.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    San Francisco State came out hot, scoring the first six points of the game before leading by seven points, 18-11.
-    The Broncos climbed back, taking their first lead of the game in the final seconds of the first quarter, scoring eight straight points to lead 19-18.
-    Scoring troubles plagued CPP in the second quarter as the Gators outscored them 18-11 to take a six-point lead heading into the break.
-    SFSU took their largest lead of the night at 45-33 with 6:32 left to play in the third quarter.
-    The Broncos began the comeback, outscoring the Gators 16-5 in the final minutes of the quarter to trail 50-49 heading into the final quarter.
-    CPP took the lead for good, scoring the first shot in the fourth quarter as Chelsea Waddy-Blow hit a corner jumper to go up 51-50.
-    Casey McWilliam scored the final seven points for the Broncos to keep her team ahead down the stretch.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Waddy-Blow led the Broncos with 20 points and 12 rebounds to earn the double-double. She shot 7-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
-    Behind her was McWilliam who tallied four three-pointers on her way to 18 points while Alyssa Benton, Jordyn Shane, and Adaora Obi each finished with six points.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    The win solidifies the Broncos in second-place in the CCAA standings, earning a home playoff game as they can't finish below fourth overall in the league standings. The CCAA tournament begins on Tuesday, Feb. 27 with the quarterfinals rounds.
-    Waddy-Blow tallied her fifth double-double of the season while also earning her fifth night with 20 or more points scored.

COMING UP NEXT:
The Broncos close out the regular season next weekend on Saturday, Feb. 24 as they host Cal State San Bernardino on Senior Night at Kellogg Arena.
