Broncos Claim Second-Seed, Finish Regular Season with Victory

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team solidified the second-seed heading into the California Collegiate Athletic Association Postseason Tournament, defeating Cal State San Bernardino 62-55 in the regular season finale at Kellogg Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams began the night fairly even as they traded off taking the lead for the majority of the first quarter.
  • Jackie Ricketson scored the final bucket to take a 12-9 lead heading into the second period.
  • San Bernardino evened the score in the second quarter, outscoring CPP 15-12 to tie the game 24-24 at half time.
  • The Broncos shot 36 percent from the field while shooting 26-for-33 from the free throw line.
  • CPP also won the rebounding battle 42-32.
  • The Broncos opened the game up in the third quarter, using a 15-2 run to pull away from the Coyotes and take their largest lead of the night at 39-26.
  • San Bernardino came back within four points of the Broncos but couldn't retake the lead as Casey McWilliam hit five of her six free throws down the stretch.
 
KEY PERFORMERS:
  • McWilliam led the Broncos with 18 total points while shooting 4-of-7 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
  • Priscilla Brooks finished one point shy of a double-double as she tallied nine points and a team high 13 rebounds.
  • Alyssa Benton, Chelsea Waddy-Blow and Jordyn Shane each finished with eight points while McWilliam added three steals.
 
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
  • The Broncos finished in the top three of the conference standings for the second year in a row, after taking third overall a season ago.
