Broncos Open CCAA Action with 5-1 Win

POMONA - The Cal Poly Pomona Baseball team opened conference play with a win on Friday afternoon, defeating Cal State San Marcos 5-1 in the first of a four-game series.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-    The Broncos opened the scoring in the second inning as they scored four runs to take the early advantage over the Cougars.
-    Back-to-back doubles by Cesar Lopez and Patrick Vizcaino scored the first run followed by singles from Bryce Graddy, Jacob Bernardy, and Drew Cowley as the Broncos tallied five straight hits.
-    CPP scored their final run in the fifth inning after Cowley forced a bases-loaded walk for his second RBI of the day.
-    After being blanked for six straight innings, CSUSM scored their only run of the game in the seventh inning after a singled scored the runner from second base.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Austin Isenhart started on the mound for the Broncos as he picked up his second win to improve to 2-0 on the season. He tossed seven innings while giving up only five hits and one run.
-    Darin May closed out the remainder of the game allowing one run in two innings pitched with two strikeouts.
-    Nick Peifer finished with two hits including a double while Nic Hernandez, Graddy, and Bernardy collected two hits each.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: 
-    For Isenhart, 19 of his 21 innings pitched have been scoreless, earning an ERA of 0.86 while Hernandez moved his streak to seven straight games with a hit.

COMING UP NEXT:
The Broncos will continue the series with San Marcos at home on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start before closing the series at San Marcos.
