POMONA - The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team picked up a win to open the four-game series with UC San Diego, defeating the Tritons on the road 8-3 on Thursday afternoon.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After neither team could bring a run in through the first three innings,
Cesar Lopez broke the tie in the fourth inning, hitting his first home run of the year, a solo shot down the right-field line.
- The inning continued for the Broncos as they forced two walks and single to load the bases.

Drew Cowley added the lead with a two-RBI single while the Broncos scored their fourth run on a wild pitch to go up 4-0.
- The bats continued for CPP in the fifth inning as Lopez hit a triple so score
Brennan McKenzie followed by a single up the middle from
Nick Peifer to go up 6-0.
- The Tritons collected three hits and a walk in the bottom of the fifth to cut into the lead, 6-2.
- CPP added two more insurance runs in the eighth with RBI-singles by
Nic Hernandez and
Bryce Graddy.
KEY PERFORMERS:
- Five Broncos registered two hits in the game with Lopez leading the way with two RBIs and two runs while going 2-for-4 with a walk on the day.
- Also tallying two RBIs was Cowley while Peifer, Hernandez, and Graddy each collected one RBI.

Austin Isenhart picked up his third win to improve to 3-0, throwing five innings with six hits and two earned runs.
- Throwing four innings in relief was
Tim Holdgrafer who allowed one run on three hits while collected five strikeouts.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- With one hit on the day, Hernandez has now reached base safely in all 11 games this season, earning a hit in 10 of those games and a walk in the other.
- The Broncos hold the early lead in the CCAA standings as they improve to 4-1 in conference play with their second straight victory.
