Broncos Drop Series Finale to San Francisco State 9-5

POMONA - The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team ended their seven-game winning streak, falling to San Francisco State 9-5 in the final game of the series on the road.


THE BASICS:

GAME SUMMARY:
-    The Broncos got on the board first, scoring in the second inning as Matt Manskar singled to left field, scoring Nick Peifer to go up 1-0.
-    SFSU took the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs off of back-to-back doubles.
-    The Gators added to their lead, scoring two more runs in the third inning and three in the fourth inning to take a 7-1 advantage.
-    Cody Martin cut into SFSU's lead in the fifth hitting, launching a two-run homer to right center.
-    San Francisco State answered back in the sixth, putting up two more runs after a single and an RBI groundout, taking a 9-3 lead.
-    CPP added one run in the eighth inning off a home run by Brennan McKenzie and another in the ninth after a single by Nic Hernandez scored Cesar Lopez but couldn't overcome the deficit, ending the series against the Gators 3-1.

KEY PERFORMERS: 
-    Hernandez, McKenzie, and Manskar each finished with two hits in the contest while Martin tallied two RBIs to lead the Broncos.
-    Taking the loss for CPP was Michael Gomez who finished with four innings pitched, giving up six earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
-    Peter Beattie threw two innings of relief with three hits and two runs while Anthony Mizrahi and Jeremy Taylor combined for two innings pitched with one hit and four strikeouts.

The Broncos return to Scolinos Field next weekend as they welcome in Sonoma State for a four-game series beginning on Thursday, March 29.
