POMONA – It's a new season for the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team as the field for the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament was announced.
The Broncos will hold the fourth-seed in the tournament as they prepare to take on fifth-seeded Saint Martin's University in the opening round beginning on Friday, March 9 on the campus of Western Oregon University.

To This Point: CPP wrapped up the regular season with the California Collegiate Athletic Association title, finishing with a conference record of 18-4. They advanced to the championship round of the CCAA postseason tournament to enter the regional with an overall record of 23-6.
The Broncos relied heavily on one of the top defenses in the nation, holding opponents to an average of 61.6 points per game which ranks third in all of Division II. In 13 games this season, CPP held opponents to less than 60 points in the contest.
Jordan Ogundiran and
William Christmas have been the leading scorer's for the Broncos, averaging 14.2 and 13.1 points respectively.
Riley Schaefer has made a big impact in recent weeks, scoring double figures in four of his last six games including the final two rounds of the CCAA tournament.
About the Saints: Saint Martin's is having one of their most successful seasons in program history, advancing to the NCAA tournament for the first time after finishing with an overall record of 24-7, losing to top-seeded Western Oregon in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title game.
The Saints have won 14 of their last sixteen contests with their only losses coming against Western. SMU has a high powered offense, scoring an average of 78.7 points per game while the defense gives up 71.6 points per game.
CPP vs. SMU: The Broncos have matched up with the Saints in four occasions, coming away with a 3-1 record. It has been awhile since these teams have seen each other, with their last matchup happening in the 2004-05 season as SMU defeated CPP on the road 74-68.
Broncos in the Tournament: This will mark the 12
th time Cal Poly Pomona has made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Their last appearance was the 2015 season while the Broncos have made the West Regional in six of the last 10 seasons. During the 2009 and 2010 seasons, CPP advanced to the NCAA Championship game, winning the title in 2010.
