CSULA takes Game One over the Broncos 6-5

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team couldn't hold on to the lead against Cal State Los Angeles, giving up five runs in the seventh inning to fall 6-5 in game one of the series on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Broncos started the night with the lead as Cesar Lopez singled through the right side to score Nic Hernandez in the fourth inning.
  • Bryce Graddy followed that up with a groundout to second base, scoring another runner to give CPP a 2-0.
  • Cal State LA earned one run in the fifth, scoring on a throwing error by the Broncos to make it 2-1.
  • The Broncos took a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning as Brennan McKenzie hit a solo home run to right field.
  • CSULA took over the game in the seventh inning, starting with a solo home run before going up 6-3.
  • CPP added two more runs in the eighth as Lopez scored on a wild pitch before Jacob Bernardy got on base with a fielder's choice, scoring Matt Manskar in the process.
 
KEY PERFORMERS:
  • McKenzie and Lopez each finished with two hits and an RBI while McKenzie tallied two runs on the day.
  • Also earning an RBI was Graddy who finished 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Austin Isenhart took the loss on the day, holding a record of 3-1 one the season. He tossed 6 and 1/3 innings allowing five runs off of seven hits with five strikeouts.
