POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball opened up the series against Cal State Monterey Bay in a big way, scoring double digit runs to defeat the Otters 10-5 on Friday at Scolinos Field.

GAME SUMMARY:
- The Broncos broke open the scoring early as Cesar Lopez launched a two-run blast to right field in the first inning to go up 2-0.
- Monterey Bay took one run back in the third inning, hitting an RBI double to center field, scoring the runner from first base.
- In the fourth inning, the Broncos took a 3-1 lead as Patrick Vizcaino hit a single to left field to score Bryce Graddy who got on base with an error by the shortstop.
- CPP continued their scoring streak in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to take a 7-1 advantage. Drew Cowley started things off with a groundout to second base, scoring Cody Martin in the process. CPP added three more runs, two coming off bases loaded hit-by-pitches while the third came off a wild pitch.
- The Broncos added three more insurance runs in the sixth as Cowley singled to score Lopez followed by a double from Brennan McKenzie and single by Graddy.
- The Otters fought back late, scoring two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings but couldn't overcome the early deficit, falling 10-5
KEY PERFORMERS:
- Lopez finished with three hits and two RBIs while scoring three runs on the day. Also tallying three hits was Graddy who finished with two runs scored and one RBI.
- Cowley and McKenzie each finished with two hits and two RBIs while McKenzie came around to score twice as well.
- Ryan Alsworth picked up the win for the Broncos, improving his record to 6-3 on the year. He tossed five innings, four of them scoreless, with only one run off of five hits while striking out nine total batters.
- Coming in with two scoreless innings in relief was Brian Conley who gave up two hits with two strikeouts.
