POMONA – A stumble in the third inning by the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team was enough for Chico State who defeated the Broncos 5-1 in game one of the series at Scolinos Field.

GAME SUMMARY:
- The Broncos jumped out to a quick lead in the second inning, scoring a run off a squeeze bunt to the first base side by Alex Kline, allowing Bryce Graddy to score from third.
- Chico State answered back immediately in the third inning, scoring a run off a single to center field before a three-run blast to left field made it 4-1 in favor of Chico.
- The Wildcats added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning, hitting a double to left center to bring in the runner from second. CPP avoided allowing another run on the play, completing the relay from left field, to short stop, to catcher for the final out in the inning.
- CPP struggled to bring runners home, leaving nine runners on the bases throughout the night.
KEY PERFORMERS:
- Graddy and Bernardy each recorded two hits in the contest while Kline recorded the lone RBI for the Broncos.
- Ryan Alsworth took the loss for CPP, tossing eight complete innings while giving up five runs off of eight hits with two strikeouts. Tonight's appearance on the mound was the 80th for Alsworth in his career at CPP which set an all-time program record for appearances by a pitcher.
- Darin May tossed one inning of relief, giving up zero hits.
