POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader at Cal State East Bay, blanking the Pioneers in a 7-0 win in game one before falling in game two 3-1.

GAME ONE:
GAME SUMMARY:
- The Broncos took the lead in the second inning of the game as Nick Peifer hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Brennan McKenzie to go up 1-0.
- Dylan Francis started on the mound for the Broncos, retiring nine straight batters between the second and fourth innings to keep CPP ahead.
- The Broncos pulled away in the fourth inning as Nic Hernandez and Drew Cowley opened the inning with back-to-back singles before McKenzie added three runs with a homer to left field. CPP added two more runs off hits by Jacob Bernardy and Cesar Lopez.
- CPP added one final run in the eighth inning as Peifer hit a solo home run to left center, giving the Broncos a 7-0 win.
KEY PERFORMERS:
- McKenzie finished with a team high three RBIs while Peifer finished with two runs batted in.
- Cowley led the Broncos with three hits while Hernandez, Bernardy and McKenzie each finished with two hits.
- Francis picked up the win to improve to 3-2 on the season, pitching seven scoreless innings with only three hits and five strikeouts.
- Michael Gomez and Anthony Mizrahi each tossed one inning of relief giving up one and two hits respectively.
GAME TWO:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Game two saw less offense from the Broncos as neither team scored a run through the first two innings.
- CPP opened the scoring in the third inning as Hernandez singled to center field, scoring Cody Martin to give the Broncos and early 1-0 lead.
- The Pioneers tied the game in the bottom half of the inning before scoring one run in the fourth and another run in the fifth to split with the Broncos.
KEY PERFORMERS:
- Tim Holdgrafer started on the mound for CPP, giving up three runs in five innings of work, allowing five hits while finishing with four strikeouts.
- Brian Conley pitched one inning of relief, giving up zero hits with one strikeout.
