Pioneers Earn Series Victory with 3-1 Win Over Broncos

POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team dropped the series against Cal State East Bay, losing the final game losing 3-1 on the road on Monday afternoon.

GAME SUMMARY:
  • After both teams went scoreless through the first two innings, East Bay jumped ahead with two runs in the third inning, hitting a double to left center field followed by a sacrifice fly to right field.
  • The Broncos scored their lone run of the game in the fourth inning as Nic Hernandez launched his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot to center field, to close the gap.
  • The Pioneers added an insurance run in the seventh inning with another sacrifice fly, this time to center field to go up 3-1.
 
KEY PERFORMERS:
  • Hernandez registered two of CPP's six hits while four other Broncos managed one hit in the contest.
  • Taking the loss for CPP was Austin Isenhart who finished with six 1/3 inning pitched, allowing three runs off six hits.
  • Brian Conley pitched 2/3 innings with one hit and no runs while Ben Mora tossed one complete inning with one hit, one strikeout and no runs.
 
COMING UP NEXT:
The Broncos will return to Scolinos Field next weekend as they welcome in Cal State Monterey Bay for a four-game series beginning Friday, April 13.
