STOCKTON – The fourth-seed Cal Poly Pomona baseball team avoided elimination in a big way on Thursday, defeating top-seeded Cal State Monterey Bay 12-5 on the second day of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Postseason Tournament at Banner Island Ballpark.

GAME SUMMARY:
- Monterey Bay scored first, hitting a solo shot over the right-center wall to take a quick 1-0 lead in the opening inning of play.
- In the second inning, Patrick Flynn singled through the right side, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cesar Lopez and third after a groundout by Logan Gopperton. Bryce Graddy brought in the tying run in the inning, hitting a floater to left field.
- The runs poured in in the third for the Broncos as Drew Cowley singled to score Bernardy followed by a double by Flynn and a sacrifice fly by Lopez. Graddy singled down the left field line for another run while Bernardy brought home two more runs with a single shot to center field to give CPP a 7-1 lead.
- Lopez earned another RBI in the fourth, hitting his second sacrifice fly of the day to center field, bringing home Cowley.
- The Otters got two runs back in the fifth, hitting their second home run, a two-run shot to left center to cut the lead to 8-3.
- Monterey Bay added another run in the seventh, hitting a double to the left field wall, giving CPP an 8-4 advantage.
- Cal Poly Pomona kept the pressure on the Otters in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI double by Cowley off the center field wall.
- In the eighth inning, Flynn hit a solo blast to left field followed by an RBI single to center by Alex Kline to give CPP a 12-4 lead heading into the ninth.
- Monterey scored one run in the final inning, hitting into a double play before a fly out ended the game.
KEY PERFORMERS:
- Ryan Alsworth picked up his seventh win of the season, tossing seven innings of work while giving up four runs off six hits and seven punch outs.
- Peter Beattie secured the win with two innings of relief, allowing one run off three this with one strikeout.
- Flynn finished with three hits and two RBIs on the day while scoring three runs in the process. Also finishing with three hits and two RBIs was Cowley.
- Bernardy, Graddy, and Lopez each added two RBIs as well.

The Broncos will face off against fifth-seeded Cal State Los Angeles in an elimination game tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
