Broncos Drop Season-Opener At Seattle Pacific

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team opened the 2018 season suffering a 2-0 loss to host Seattle Pacific Thursday night at Interbay Stadium in Seattle, Wash.  The Broncos, who fall to 0-1 to begin the year, will remain in the Emerald City to face Simon Fraser on Saturday at 4:00 pm.

It didn't take long for the host Falcons (1-0) to strike, converting the first shot by either team in the contest just 7:58 into the action on a 12-yard blast from Kasey Reeve.  Minutes later, Seattle Pacific thought to have scored its second goal of the game a couple minutes later, only to be waived off by an offsides call.  Cal Poly Pomona launched two shots in the opening 45 minutes of action, compared to four for SPU, but the game would remain at 1-0 heading into the intermission.

Just as Seattle Pacific did to open the game, the Falcons didn't waste any time to find the net in the second half on a nice cross from the far side that found Sophia Shilczuk at the near post to tap it in for the 2-0 lead.

With not much time remaining in the game, the Broncos put some pressure on the Falcons back line, firing four shots in the final eight minutes, but to no avail as Seattle Pacific secured the shutout win.

Amanda Duran accounted for three of the nine CPP shots.  Clarissa Sanchez got the start in goal but did not record a save in her first-half action.  Sydney Williams took over between the posts in the second half, making three saves.
