Broncos Complete Perfect Weekend At Showcase

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team made a statement Saturday evening, sweeping previously undefeated Stanislaus State in three sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) to wrap up a perfect weekend at the annual D2 West Region Showcase, hosted this year by Holy Names University in Oakland.  At 7-1, the Broncos are off to their best eight-game start since 2007 as they head into conference play on the road next weekend.

Prior to defeating Stanislaus State, CPP easily handled host Holy Names in three sets (25-12, 25-15, 25-19) earlier in the day Saturday.  All told, the Broncos have swept six consecutive matches, which hasn't been done by a CPP team since 1992, and they have won all seven of their games this season in three sets.

Kristen Hamlin led the team offensively in the two games combined Saturday, smashing 19 kills and committing just two errors in 34 attacks for a fiery .500 hitting percentage.  She also made five blocks and recorded six digs to contribute defensively.

Jenna Goldsberry scored her first double-double of the year, tallying 10 kills and 10 digs in the victory over Stanislaus.  Alex Bollier had 24 digs to lead all defenders while Chloe Fields-Owens added 12 digs off the bench against the Warriors.

Cal Poly Pomona, which entered the weekend receiving votes in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, will open the 2018 conference slate on the road Friday at Chico State. First serve from Acker Gymnasium in Chico Friday is set for 7:00 pm.
