POMONA -- Kristen Hamlin and
Ally Wilder went for double-digit kills and
Chloe Fields-Owens led the defensive effort with 16 digs as the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team swept aside visiting Humboldt State (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) Saturday night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona. The Broncos have won 10 straight matches, rising to 11-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in CCAA action.
It is the Broncos' second-best 12-match start in school history; the 2005 squad won their first 19 games to open that season.
Hamlin lit CPP's fire right from the get-go, slamming four consecutive kills to build an early 6-3 lead. The Broncos went on to earn a convincing 25-18 win to take the first set, led by the seven kills by Hamlin in the first frame alone. She hit a sizzling .545 in the set to lead all players. The second set for CPP was an all-around effort that saw the hosts win 25-20 in the second set.
It was the
Ally Wilder show in the third and final set, as she went off for seven kills and a .400 hitting percentage to fuel the offense in securing a second sweep in as many nights (25-17). All told, the Broncos hit .206 as a team while holding the Lumberjacks to just .062. Hamlin finished with 15 kills and Wilder 13. Complementing Fields-Owens on the back line was
Alex Bollier with 13 digs and
Kira Zimmerman with 10. Zimmerman also passed out 41 assists with a pair of aces from the service line.
Cal Poly Pomona returns to the court on Friday when it hosts UC San Diego at 7:00 pm in Kellogg Arena.
