SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team gave up three second half goals, including two in the final six minutes, to lose 3-0 to Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday afternoon at Premier Field in San Bernardino. The Broncos fall to 2-4 overall and open CCAA play at 0-1. The Coyotes rise to 4-2 (1-0 CCAA).
After a scoreless first half, the Coyotes broke the tie with a goal by Sergio Espindola in the 51st minute. It would remain that way until the 85th minute when CSUSB's Jonathan Garcia put one into the net for the 2-0 lead for the hosts. Just 54 seconds later, CPP's
Jason Ramos tackled a Coyote striker in the box and was shown a straight red card, resulting in a successful penalty kick by Danny Ortiz for the 3-0 CSUSB lead and eventual final score.
Cal State San Bernardino held the slight advantage in shots, 16-13, but Cal Poly Pomona saw its chances deep in the Coyotes territory, taking nine corner kicks, including six in the second half, to three corners by the hosts.
Both netminders, CPP's
Jakob Hansen and CSUSB's Jacob Huber each made three saves in the contest.
Cal Poly Pomona returns home Sunday to host San Francisco State. First kick from Kellogg Stadium is set for 2:00 pm.
