POMONA -- Behind the 18 points, 13 rebounds and five assists from
Jordyn Shane, the nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team allowed just four points in the fourth quarter to defeat visiting Sonoma State, 58-50, on Thursday night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
The Broncos, who entered the week ranked at No. 24 in the D2SIDA Women's Basketball National Media Poll, have now won eight straight games in rising to 15-2 overall and 11-1 in the CCAA. The Seawolves fell to 6-9 (4-8 CCAA).
It was a back-and-forth contest the entire evening as it featured 11 ties and 11 lead changes. In fact, Sonoma State held a lead for 24 minutes on Thursday while the Broncos had an advantage for just under eight minutes. It wasn't until
Dominique Dotson drained a three-pointer with 3:17 left in the final period that CPP took the lead for good, kickstarting what would be an 11-2 run over the final three minutes to escape with the eight-point win.
Monica Todd chipped in with 12 points while
Rebecca Islas added 11 points and 12 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. The Broncos were held to just 32.8 percent shooting (19 of 58) and the Seawolves shot 33.3 percent (22 of 66). Both teams were a combined 4 for 37 from three-point range, both hitting two apiece.
Sonoma was led by the 16 points and 15 rebounds of Ugochi Anudokem.
