POMONA -- William Christmas again led the way, dropping in a team-high 16 points, as the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team earned a 64-56 victory on national television over San Francisco State Saturday evening at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
With the win, the Broncos rise to 10-5 overall and 8-5 in the CCAA while the Gators fall to 11-7 (7-6 CCAA).
The Broncos led from nearly start to finish in Saturday's matinee streamed live on ESPN3, using an all-around effort to put the Gators away in the end. CPP would find themselves with a 12-point advantage at 39-27 with 11:49 left in regulation, but the Gators went on a 13-4 run over the next six minutes to pull within three points at 43-30 with six minutes to play. SF State even got to within two points on three different occasions down the stretch, but CPP went on a 16-7 run over the next three minutes to secure what eventually became the eight-point win.
Jordan Ogundiran scored 11 points and assisted on five other buckets and
Dwight Ramos came off the bench to score 10 points.
Riley Schaefer added nine more points along with a team-high eight rebounds.
Niquis Garland led the way for SF State with a game-high 20 points in 24 minutes off the bench.
Cal Poly Pomona will hit the road for a brief two-game road trip to the Bay Area next weekend, taking on Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside on Thursday (7:30 pm) before facing Cal State East Bay Saturday (3:00 pm).
