CHICO, Calif. -- Taylor Scott scored her conference-leading seventh goal of the season in the 69th minute as the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team stunned host Chico State, 1-0, on Friday evening at University Soccer Stadium in Chico.
The Broncos rise to 7-3-0 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA, snapping the Wildcats' 26-match home unbeaten streak, as they fall to 7-3-1 (3-2 CCAA).
After a scoreless first half that saw just seven combined shots (4-3 in favor of CPP), Scott worked her magic again, redirecting a cross up and over Chico State goalkeeper Victoria Graham before finding the far corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Almost immediately, the Wildcats countered with three shots in less than a minute, but two would be saved by CPP netminder
Sydney Williams, and the other blocked by the Broncos defense. Another shot attempt in the 76th minute by the hosts resulted in a save by Williams, and that would be the final shot taken by Chico State.
Williams matched her season-high with six saves in recording her second shutout of the season. The Broncos edged the Wildcats in shots (11-9), but Chico had the edge in shots on target (6-4).
The last time Chico State lost on their home field was back on Oct. 2, 2016 when CPP won that match, 2-1, in overtime.
Cal Poly Pomona will end the roadtrip Sunday at Stanislaus State in Turlock (2:00 pm) before coming home to play six of their final seven regular season matches at Kellogg Stadium in Pomona.
