Larson's Goal Lifts Broncos Over Warriors

TURLOCK, Calif. -- Shayna Larson buried her first-career goal in the 33rd minute and Sydney Williams recorded her third straight shutout (and fifth of the season) as the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team upset host Stanislaus State Sunday afternoon at Warrior Stadium in Turlock.

The Broncos have won three straight matches, rising to 8-3-0 overall, and have jumped into third place in the CCAA standings at 4-1, six points back of conference-leader Sonoma State, and four points back of second place UC San Diego.  The Warriors saw their four-match win streak come to a halt, falling to 9-2-0 (4-2 CCAA).

"I am extremely proud of our group's fight this weekend against two very good programs in Chico State and Stanislaus State," said CPP head coach Jay Mason.  "Playing on the road in this conference is like nothing else you can imagine.  I'm looking forward to recovering this week and preparing for another grueling pair of games at home."

CPP dominated on the offensive end for the majority of the match, outshooting the hosts 14-5.  It was at 32:30 when Larson took a pass from Taylor Scott and scored what would end up being the only goal of the game.

Both Williams and Stanislaus goalkeeper Alyssa Herrman each made four saves on their respective ends of the pitch.

Cal Poly Pomona now returns home for its next six contests, beginning with a Thursday night date with Cal State Dominguez Hills at 4:30 pm in Pomona.
