POMONA -- Jazminn Parrish led the offense with 16 kills and
Brynn Sherbert had 18 digs, but the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team was swept by visiting Cal State San Marcos (26-24, 25-13, 25-20) on Saturday at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
The Broncos fall to 4-12 overall and 2-7 in the CCAA. The Cougars rise to 11-7 (5-4 CCAA).
In the first set, CPP held a 23-19 lead, but the Cougars rallied to score seven of the next eight points to steal the first set win 26-24 and take the 1-0 match lead. The Cougars sizzled in the second set, smashing 11 kills without an error in 28 swings, en route to the convincing 25-13 win and the 2-0 lead in the match. The third set featured six ties and three lead changes between the two squads, the last tie coming at 14-all, but a Cal State San Marcos kill by Maddy Newcombe broke the tie and CPP could never recover as the Cougars eventually went on to win 25-20 to clinch the match.
Ally Wilder,
Daisy Duke and
Kaitlan Tucker posted six kills each as the Broncos hit .188. On the other side of the net, the Cougars hit .330, led by the 12 kills from Emily Vander Weide.
Cal Poly Pomona will hit the road for its next five matches, beginning next Saturday at top-ranked Cal State San Bernardino.
