POMONA -- Six different Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer players scored on Sunday, including a brace from
Eduardo Faria, as the Broncos defeated visiting San Francisco State 7-1 at Kellogg Stadium in Pomona.
The Broncos improve to 8-4-2 overall and 7-1-1 in the CCAA, remaining in a tie for second place with Cal State LA, both teams with 22 points trailing UC San Diego with 24 points. The Gators fell ot 9-4 overall and 6-3 in the CCAA.
Jordan Jackmon got the scoring started at 12:26, followed by
Eduardo Faria just one minute, 13 seconds later to make it 2-0 early. SF State got a goal back at 41:23 to make it 2-1, but CPP responded with a goal by
Jason Ramos on a free kick just under three minutes later as the Broncos went into the halftime break up 3-1.
Not even five minutes into the second half, Cal Poly Pomona buried two goals, Faria's second goal of the game at 46:23, followed by a score by
Omer Green at 49:10 as the Broncos blew the game wide open with a 5-1 lead.
The final two goals also came within three-plus minutes of each other,
Gabriel Castillo got in on the scoring party with his goal at 70:01, then
Ori Kenett put the icing on the cake with a penalty kick goal at 73:29.
In all, the Broncos outshot the Gators 27-11, including a dominating 16-6 margin in the first half.
Cal Poly Pomona returns to action Friday at home against Cal State East Bay, starting at 4:30 pm.
