Villalobos, Castillo Score In Win Over UCSD

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Jimmie Villalobos scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season and Gabriel Castillo netted the exclamation point late in the second half as the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team knocked off host UC San Diego, 2-0, on Friday night at Triton Soccer Stadium in La Jolla.

The Broncos have won three straight contests, rising to 3-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA.  The Tritons (7-2 overall) fell to 2-1 in the CCAA, suffering their first shutout of the season.

Despite being outshot in both halves (6-5 in the first and 9-7 in the second for a total of 15-12), the Broncos kept the host Tritons out of the net to record their second clean slate of the year.  Meanwhile, Villalobos, who is the second-leading scorer in the conference in 2019, scored in his fifth-straight match, burying a shot at 42:40 on an assist from Garrett Jensen.  Then Castillo put CPP up by two goals when he scored his first goal of the year in the 75th minute on an assist from Villalobos.

Miguel Bayma notched the shutout between the posts for CPP, making two saves in the victory.

Cal Poly Pomona will return to the pitch Sunday at Cal State San Marcos.  Kickoff in San Marcos is set for 2:00 pm.
