POMONA -- Despite winning the first set, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team fell 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-18) at home to Cal State LA Friday night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
The Broncos have lost three straight, dropping to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the CCAA. The Golden Eagles (8-4 overall) remain undefeated in conference play at 4-0.
In the opening frame, the Broncos outhit the Golden Eagles, .270 to .243 to win 25-22 and take the 1-0 match lead. However, for the next three sets, CPP hit just .047, allowing CSULA to rally for wins in the next three sets to clinch the match. In the end, Cal State LA hit .282 while Cal Poly Pomona posted a .114.
Ally Wilder led the CPP offense with 11 kills, followed by eight kills from
Jazminn Parrish.Â
Brynn Sherbert recorded a team-best 16 digs in the loss.
For Cal State LA, both Julia Azevado and Daisy Crenshaw scored 13 kills as Karla Santos had 20 digs. CSULA also outblocked CPP, 9-4.
Cal Poly Pomona will host Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday at Kellogg Arena in Pomona, set for 7:00 pm.
