POMONA -- Behind double-digit kills from
Ally Wilder,
Daisy Duke and
Jazminn Parrish, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat visiting Cal State Monterey Bay in five sets (20-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-15, 15-4) on Saturday evening at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.
The Broncos (7-15 overall) record their first home win of the season and improve to 5-10 in the CCAA. The Otters fall to 5-18 (1-15 CCAA).
CPP enjoyed its most efficient match on offense since its first match of the 2019 season, hitting .310 as a team with a season-high 66 kills. Leading the way was Wilder with 18 kills, followed by Duke with 17 and Parrish with 14.Â
Brynn Sherbert recorded a career-best 29 digs with three service aces.Â
Kira Zimmerman handed out 47 assists, adding 19 digs and six kills.
After falling behind 2-1 in the match, that's when the Broncos offense got hot, smashing 33 kills with just three errors in 62 attacks, a sizzling .483 clip, in the final two sets, including a blazing .524 hitting percentage (13k-2e-21a) in the deciding frame that saw the hosts whip CSUMBÂ by a score of 15-4.
Cal State Monterey Bay got 14 kills from both Jenna Tobin and Baylie Pierson.
Cal Poly Pomona will play its final two matches of the 2019 season next weekend, both at home in Kellogg Arena. The Broncos host Stanislaus State on Friday, then Chico State on Saturday, both set for 7:00 pm starts.
