CHICO, Calif. -- The 24th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team used a dominating second period to knock off host Chico State, 62-50, on Saturday night at Acker Gymnasium in Chico.
With the victory, the Broncos (20-4, 16-3 CCAA) secures home game for the first round of the CCAA Tournament on March 5th, clinching one of the Top 4 seeds in the conference with three regular season games remaining. The Wildcats fall to 12-9 overall and 9-9 in the CCAA.
CPP blasted Chico for the first three quarters, eventually leading by as much as 25 points with 9:16 left in regulation, but the Wildcats wouldn't go down without a fight, ending the contest on a 17-4 run, though it wasn't enough as the Broncos captured the 12-point win.
Dominique Dotson led all scorers with 16 points while
Jordyn Shane had 12 points with 12 rebounds. All 10 Broncos that saw action on Saturday got in the scoring column, contributing to a 42.6 percent shooting clip on 23 of 54. The defense held Chico to just 31 percent on 18 of 58 from the floor.
Cal Poly Pomona will now return home for the final three games of the regular season, beginning with a Thursday night date with Stanislaus State. Tipoff from Kellogg Arena is set for 5:30 pm.
