Broncos' Win Streak Snapped By #2 Tritons

POMONA -- The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team got 21 points from Jordyn Shane and 15 more from Monica Todd, but the Broncos suffered a 101-72 loss to No. 2 ranked UC San Diego on Thursday evening at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.

The loss was CPP's first since December 19th -- a span of 50 days -- as they fall to 18-3 overall and 14-2 in the CCAA.  The Tritons, meanwhile, remain undefeated in 2018-19, rising to 19-0 (15-0 in conference action).

UC San Diego took a large lead early and never looked back, cruising to the 29-point win, thanks to a sharpshooting effort from the floor.  The Tritons connected on 54.9 percent (39 of 71), draining 15 three-pointers in the process.  On the other side of the floor, Cal Poly Pomona was held to 39.7 percent (27 of 68) shooting, hitting five long-range jumpers from beyond the arc.

Shane had team highs of 21 points, seven assists and two blocks while Todd chipped in with 15 points.  Kasey Smit tallied 13 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

For UC San Diego, Sydney Sharp led all players with 26 points on 9 of 15 from the floor, including 8 for 12 from three-point range.  All five Triton starters scored at least 15 points.

Cal Poly Pomona will look to rebound Saturday at home against Cal State San Marcos. Tipoff from Kellogg Arena is set for 5:30 pm.
