POMONA -- Matt Manskar went 2 for 4 with a stolen base and
Ryon Knowles had a RBI, but that would be the extent of the offense as the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Cal State San Bernardino in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Scolinos Field in Pomona.
The Broncos also lost the series, 3-1, falling to 11-11 overall and 9-7 in the CCAA. The Coyotes improved to 9-11 (6-9 CCAA).
Neither team scored until the top of the fifth inning when Cal State San Bernardino got a leadoff home run from David Osuna off of CPP starter
Austin Isenhart. The Coyotes got two more runs off Isenhart with bacl-to-back RBI singles in the sixth inning to make it 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
The Broncos got a run back in the bottom half of the sixth when Knowles hit a sacrifice fly out to left field, scoring
Angel Ortiz, but that would be the only run scored by CPP on the afternoon.
Isenhart (2-3) was tagged with the loss, giving up the three runs on eight hits, striking out seven.
Chris Burnette and
Anthony Mizrahi combined for three shutout innings at the end.
Osuna and Gabe Chavez combined to go 7 for 8 at the plate for CSUSB.
Cal Poly Pomona returns to action Friday at home against San Francisco State. Game one of the four game series with the Gators is set for a 6:00 pm first pitch.
