CCAA Co-Champions! #24 Broncos Defeat CSUSB

POMONA -- For the second time in program history, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team captured the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Basketball Regular Season title in back-to-back seasons, thanks to a thrilling 68-64 victory over visiting Cal State San Bernardino on Senior Night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.

Winners of 12 straight games, the Broncos (19-5 overall) share the regular season championship with UC San Diego as both finish the CCAA slate with 17-5 records.  However, by virtue of a head-to-head tiebreaker (CPP defeated UCSD back on Feb. 7), the Broncos will enter next week's CCAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed.

CPP will host No. 8 seed Humboldt State in the First Round Tuesday night at 7:30 pm.  The winner of Tuesday's First Round contest will advance to the semifinals on Friday in Hayward where Cal State East Bay serves as the host of the semifinal and final rounds Friday and Saturday, respectively.

As for the rest of the First Round of the CCAA Tournament on Tuesday, No. 2 UC San Diego will host No. 7 Cal State San Bernardino, which fell to 15-13 overall and 11-11 in the CCAA after Saturday's loss in Pomona, No. 3 Cal State East Bay hosts No. 6 Cal State Dominguez Hills and No. 4 San Francisco State hosts No. 5 Cal State L.A.

On Senior Night, though, Phoenix Shackelford led all players with 15 points, followed by Jordan Ogundiran, who enjoyed his night with 13 points, nine of which came from the free throw line.  William Christmas chipped in with nine points, Nikhil Peters with eight and Chris Sullivan with six, who also had a team-high seven rebounds also on his night.
