Broncos Beat East Bay To Advance To CCAA Final

HAYWARD, Calif. -- Jordyn Shane scored a game-high 29 points on 7 of 15 shooting and 13 of 14 from the free throw line as the No. 2 seed Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team knocked off No. 6 seed Cal State East Bay on Friday afternoon in the 2019 CCAA Tournament semifinal at Pioneer Gymnasium in Hayward.

With the win, the Broncos (25-4) will go up against top-seed and undefeated UC San Diego (28-0) for the CCAA Tournament title on Saturday at 5:05 pm in Hayward.  The Pioneers saw their season come to an end with a 14-16 overall record.

The Broncos led from virtually start to finish, holding a double-digit lead from near the end of the first quarter on to earn the convincing semifinal win over the Pioneers.  CPP connected on 50 percent of its shots, marking just the third time this season that the Broncos have hit at least half of their shot attempts in a game, they did it on 28 of 56.

Complementing Shane's scoring effort was Monica Todd with 18 points, including a team-high seven rebounds.  Rebecca Islas chipped in with 12 points and Lauryn Catching netted 11 points.  Kasey Smit came off the bench to match Todd's seven rebounds, in addition to five steals, four assists and three blocks in 33 minutes of action.

CPP held Cal State East Bay to just 35.2 percent shooting (25 of 71) and just 15 percent from three-point range (3 of 20).  Savannah McGill led the Pioneers with 21 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out late in the contest.

Cal Poly Pomona will look to avenge a loss in the only game it played against UC San Diego this season, a 101-72 defeat back on Feb. 7 in Pomona.
