Duran, Pogue Score As Broncos Blank Sea Lions

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Amanda Duran broke a scoreless tie in the 20th minute and Ambria Pogue put an exclamation point on the afternoon with her score in the 88th minute as the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team upset defending PacWest champion Point Loma, 2-0, in the season opener Thursday at the PLNU Soccer Field in San Diego.

It was the first game of the 2019 campaign for both squads; the Broncos open the year 1-0 while the Sea Lions begin 0-1.

CPP held the advantage in the shot department, 13-8, including a 7-2 margin in shot on goals.  Goalkeeper Sydney Williams earned the shutout between the pipes, making a pair of saves in the victory.

Duran's goal in the opening half came on just the second shot attempt by the Broncos on Thursday, making it 1-0 until Pogue was able to put the game away with the goal late in the second half on an assist by Jessica Llamas.

Cal Poly Pomona will return to action Saturday at Concordia-Irvine.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
