#20 Broncos Sizzle In Season-Opening Victory

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Ally Wilder, Aofiaolela Faa'agi and Jazminn Parrish totaled double-digit kills and All-American setter Kira Zimmerman handed out 35 assists as the 20th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team cruised to a convincing 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-13, 25-14) over Western Oregon Friday to open the 2019 season at the Concordia Volleyball Classic at LCEF Court in Portland, Ore.

The re-loaded Broncos offense was firing on all cylinders Friday evening as if it were in mid-season form, posting a .322 hitting percentage as a team, smashing 42 kills with 14 errors in 87 attacks.  Wilder led the squad with 11 kills while newcomers Faa'agi and Parrish added 10.

CPP started a little slow in the opening set, hitting just .222, but in the second and third sets, the Broncos hit .355 and .379, respectively, to put away the Wolves in three.

Defensively, Sarah Clausen made a match-high 12 digs and Karah Griffiths tallied four blocks.  Mikayla Diamond also served four aces with seven digs on the back line.

Western Oregon was led by Sianna DeCarli, who scored a team-high nine kills.

Cal Poly Pomona returns to action in Portland Saturday with two matches, beginning with a 11:30 am tilt with Metro State before wrapping up the three-match weekend at 5:00 pm against tournament host Concordia.
