POMONA -- Cameron Mabee,
Troy Bethell and
Rhys Stevens combined to allow just six hits while striking out 20 batters in 16 innings on the mound, while
Ryon Knowles and
Brennan McKenzie each had three hits on the day as the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team swept Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday at Scolinos Field in Pomona with scores of 3-1 and 2-0 to take three out of four in the weekend series.
The Broncos (11-6 overall) climb to the top of the CCAA standings with a 9-3 league record, one game ahead of UC San Diego, Chico State and Cal State Dominguez Hills, all at 8-4. The Coyotes fell to 6-12 overall and 3-9 in the CCAA.
In the opener, the Coyotes scored their only run of the doubleheader on a wild pitch in the fifth inning, which put the visitors up 1-0. The lead didn't last long as McKenzie came up in the sixth and delivered a game-tying single to center, scoring
Nick Peifer. Two innings later,
Christian Moya lifted a sacrifice fly to score
Cesar Lopez before
Dante Palacio singled home McKenzie for the 3-1 victory.

The Broncos totaled 10 hits in the contest as McKenzie,
Drew Cowley and Palacio enjoyed two-hit games.
On the mound,
Cameron Mabee went the first six innings, giving up just three hits and the one run via the wild pitch, walking two and striking out nine.Â
Troy Bethell (2-0) came on in the seventh and allowed just one hit the rest of the way, striking out four.
In the nightcap, the only two runs of the ballgame came home in the bottom of the first. Lopez grounded out to score Knowles, then McKenzie brought home Peifer with a single through the right side.

Meanwhile, Stevens dealt on the mound, giving up just three hits, no walks while striking out seven to win his second game of the season.
Knowles had two of the three CPP hits in the series finale, McKenzie had the other.
Cal Poly Pomona will hit the road next weekend with a four-game series at San Francisco State, beginning Friday at 2:00 pm.
