Ramirez Scores Hat Trick in CPP Dominant Win

POMONA – Cal Poly Pomona scored early and often en route to a dominating 7-0 victory over Cal State East Bay Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos improve to 5-2-3 overall, 2-0-2 in the CCAA and are now 12-0 all-time when scoring seven or more goals in a game. The last time CPP scored seven goals at home was also against the Pioneers on Nov. 1, 2019. Cal State East Bay dropped to 2-7-1, 1-3-0 CCAA, with the loss.

Just three minutes into the contest, a Pioneer committed a foul in the box to give the Broncos a penalty kick attempt. Eduardo Faria stepped up to the spot and drilled it home to give CPP an early 1-0 lead.

Jerry Ramirez scored the first of his three goals in the 36th minute off a Garrett Jensen assist and less than three minutes later, it was déjà vu as the pair teamed up again for Ramirez's second goal of the game.

Five minutes into the second half, Ramirez capitalized again to complete a hat trick – the 14th hat trick in program history and the first since 2019. Max Laguna picked up the assist on the goal as the Broncos increased their lead to 4-0.

Laguna got on the other end of the scoring less than five minutes later, tucking in a pass from Jensen for his fourth goal of the year.

Courtland Hawkins (66th minute) and Cris Prieto (75th minute) capped the scoring for CPP, each finding the back of the net for the first time this season.

CPP boasted a 23-to-1 shot upper hand, including a 13-to-0 shots-on-goal ratio.

The Broncos look to build on their impressive offensive performance as they host Cal State San Bernardino – which sits right above CPP in the CCAA standings – on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
