SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona kept rolling and grabbed a 4-0 victory over Cal State San Marcos Sunday afternoon.
With their fourth consecutive win, the Broncos improve to 7-2-3 overall, 4-0-2 in the CCAA. The Cougars drop to 2-9-1, 1-4-1 CCAA.
The Broncos outshot the Cougars 10-to-6, and held a 6-to-3 shots on goal edge, but couldn't find the back of the net until late in the first half.
Jerry Ramirez put the Broncos on the board in the 42
nd minute after a Cougar touched the ball with his hand in the 18-yard box to draw a penalty kick. Ramirez stepped to the spot and easily tapped it in as the CSUSM goalkeeper guessed the wrong way.
Two minutes later,
Alex Rieg found the back of the net off an assist from
Estuardo Zecena to double the Broncos lead before halftime.
With just about 15 minutes left in the game, the Broncos got a corner kick and
Eduardo Faria drove in a cross into the box.
Paul Henschke came running in and got his head on it to blast it past the Cougar goalkeeper, 3-0.
Ramirez then sealed the victory by catching the goalkeeper off his line to tuck in a long ball over the Cougar defense from
Ateno Ajeakwa for another CPP goal in the 80
th minute.
Jordan Aldama made three saves to preserve the clean sheet, his fourth shutout of the year.
The Broncos head to Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, kicking off at 7:00 p.m.
