SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona picked up its fifth win in a row and inched closer to the top spot in the CCAA standings with a 2-0 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Broncos sit 8-2-3 on the year and 5-0-2 in conference to sit in third, just one point behind the second spot and four points behind the top spot. The Otters slip to 6-3-4 overall, 2-3-2 CCAA.
CSUMB held a 5-to-2 shot advantage in the first half, but the Broncos came out of halftime determined to grab some points.
Jerry Ramirez picked up the responsibility, scoring both goals for the Broncos to lift the visitors over the Otters. He first scored in the 70
th minute off an assist from
Cesar Ruvalcaba before finding the back of the net again seven minutes later off a
Max Laguna assist.
Jordan Aldama preserved his fifth shutout of the year with three saves.
The Broncos return to SoCal for a big showdown Sunday, heading to No. 13-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills at 5:00 p.m. The Toros sit just above CPP in the conference standings after dropping a 3-0 loss to No. 8-ranked Cal State L.A.
