POMONA – Cal Poly Pomona picked up its first conference win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Stanislaus State Friday night.
The Broncos improve to 4-2-3 overall, 1-0-2 in the CCAA with the win, while the Warriors drop to 5-4-1, 1-2-0 CCAA.
Less than five minutes into the contest,
Eduardo Faria capitalized on a
Paul Henschke pass to put the Broncos up 1-0 early.
Stanislaus State responded four minutes later, but
Max Laguna kept the Broncos in front with a goal in the 28
th minute off another Henschke assist.
With a 2-1 lead coming out of halftime, CPP came out fired up in the second half determined to keep its lead and out-shot the Warriors 8-to-2 in the frame.
Max Laguna's shot was blocked in the 87
th minute, but Henschke took advantage of the rebound and redirected it into the back of the net to secure the 3-1 win for CPP and finish with one goal and two assists.
The Broncos host Cal State East Bay on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
