Broncos Down Warriors for First CCAA Win

POMONA – Cal Poly Pomona picked up its first conference win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Stanislaus State Friday night.

The Broncos improve to 4-2-3 overall, 1-0-2 in the CCAA with the win, while the Warriors drop to 5-4-1, 1-2-0 CCAA.

Less than five minutes into the contest, Eduardo Faria capitalized on a Paul Henschke pass to put the Broncos up 1-0 early.

Stanislaus State responded four minutes later, but Max Laguna kept the Broncos in front with a goal in the 28th minute off another Henschke assist.

With a 2-1 lead coming out of halftime, CPP came out fired up in the second half determined to keep its lead and out-shot the Warriors 8-to-2 in the frame.

Max Laguna's shot was blocked in the 87th minute, but Henschke took advantage of the rebound and redirected it into the back of the net to secure the 3-1 win for CPP and finish with one goal and two assists.

The Broncos host Cal State East Bay on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
