LOS ANGELES – No. 16-ranked Cal Poly Pomona gets another shot at No. 6-ranked Cal State L.A. after winning its CCAA Tournament semifinal matchup with Cal State San Bernardino 2-1 in overtime.
The Broncos improve to 12-3-3 on the year, while the Coyotes drop to 10-5-3.
Kevin Hernandez came up golden for the Broncos in the 99
th minute, heading in an assist from
Fin Jackson to secure the win.
CPP opened the game with an early goal as
Garrett Jensen grabbed a pass from
Paul Henschke and had a clean look on goal to put the Broncos up 1-0.
The Coyotes turned up the pressure and out-shot the Broncos 10-to-3 in the first half, but CPP walked into halftime holding a 1-0 lead.
Things changed in the 72
nd minute, however, as CSUSB capitalized to even the score at 1-1.
Neither team could score before regulation ended, sending the game into overtime, where Hernandez handed the Broncos the lead.
Cal Poly Pomona takes on the Eagles for the CCAA Championship on Sunday, kicking off at 1:00 p.m.
