Broncos Pick Up Momentum Heading into CCAA Play

POMONA – After securing a victory over a top-five ranked team last week, Cal Poly Pomona carried momentum into a 1-0 win over Cal State L.A. in non-conference action.

Paul Henschke grabbed an early goal and the Broncos held on to improve to 3-2-1 overall, heading into California Collegiate Athletic Association action with a two-game winning streak. Cal State L.A. drops to 2-2-1 with the loss.

The Broncos poured on the offense in the first half, out-shooting the visitors 7-to-2. Henschke put CPP on the board in the 11th minute with his sixth goal of the season, firing off a shot into the near post from the top of the 18-yard box.

Despite the lead the Broncos didn't ease up and Estuardo Zecena looked to double his team's lead in the 18th minute, but the Eagle goalkeeper came up with the save.

Cal State L.A. came out of halftime desperate for an equalizer, but Jordan Aldama made two saves to preserve the shutout.

The Broncos look to build on their momentum as they begin CCAA play next week, traveling to Sonoma State for a 3:00 p.m. kick off on Friday, Oct. 1.
