POMONA – Despite outshooting Point Loma 24-13, Cal Poly Pomona had to settle for a share of points with a 3-3 tie Saturday night.
The Broncos move to 0-1-1 on the season, with the Sea Lions also sitting at 0-1-1 overall.
Point Loma capitalized first, scoring in the 10
th minute of action, but
Max Laguna found the back of the net just before halftime to even the score.
Jasper Winslow grabbed the assist after sending a corner kick into the box where Laguna connected and sent it past the Point Loma goalkeeper.
Less than three minutes into the second, the Sea Lions jumped in front again and converted a penalty kick in the 56
th minute to increase their lead to 3-1.
Seven minutes later, CPP was awarded a penalty of its own and
Eduardo Faria stepped up to the spot and cut the deficit to one, 3-2.
It lit the fire for the Broncos as they pushed for another equalizer. In the 66
th minute, CPP got another corner kick and once again found the back of the net.
Pele Martinez scored off a
Christian Miramontes assist to even the game 3-3.
Neither team would score again despite two overtime periods to finalize the 3-3 tie.
Jordan Aldama had four saves in the 110 minutes between the posts for the Broncos.
CPP heads out on the road for the first time this season, taking on Fresno Pacific University on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
